Need Help in your search for your Dream Home in France?

Would you like to have a "real" feel for a property without having to travel to France and take vital time out from your current job where you sit dreaming of living in France? We know because we have been there. Would you like some "real" on the ground information and "real" photos of houses which you have already fallen in love with on the internet or in a French property magazine? We would have loved some help when we were looking. Our aim with this page of our website is to offer guests, and prospective guests, with any local help, knowledge of France in general that we can. So please do just ask and we will be only too pleased to help in any way we can.

Since beginning our new life in France we have discovered that there were just so many gaps in our knowledge of the French way of life, the language, the culture and we really thought we had done our homework before we crossed the channel - BUT - just how wrong can you be? Basic things like - how do we sign on at the doctors, where do I buy wood for the fire and other necessary items for a home, where is the social security office, how do I get my telephone/internet connected. We learnt pretty quickly as we were very fortunate with our French neighbours, however some people we know have been less fortunate.

Since 2006 we have had several people stay with us who were house hunting and, during the course of their stay, we chatted with them about our experiences over a glass (or two) of the local brew (see their comments below). The idea of sharing our experiences with our guests, who were in the early stages of following their dream, slowly evolved. We have since been asked to visit properties on their behalf, meet with the estate agent (immobilier) and also to take specific photos which were not available on the relevant website. We enjoyed those visits and like to think we helped the prospective buyer make an informed decision as to whether they should take time off work and fly/drive over immediately or hold off until there were more suitable properties to visit.

We are delighted to say that all our househunting guests have found their dream homes and become friends in the process and we look forward to welcoming many more during out time here..

COMMENTS FROM OUR HOUSEHUNTERS

What a great place to stay while we waited for our final documents to come through on the purchase of our property in Montendre. Fantastic hosts, Kathy and Paul, great welcome pack, comfortable bed, hot showers - we were warm and comfortable fot the whole month. Looking forward to welcoming you to our home in Montendre in the near future.
Carol and David Ross, Portadown Northern Ireland - Jan and Feb 2010
Great place for a base for hols or househunting. Much help from Paul and Kathy, especially for the introduction to the agent. So ideal here that it is our second visit for home hunting and booked again for June. All wine glases new (due to me breakingthe others). Great set-up in France's second most sunny region. A la prochaine!

Agree with all other comments really. No complaints. Our stay was to enable us to carry out repairs on our own property in Mortagne, and thus our needs were for somewhere comfortable, very clean, warm with loads of hot water to shower after a days work! Fulfilled all requirements admirably. Excellent welcome pack, best we've ever seen, keep it up. Clearly much thought goes into it.
John and Linda, Colchester - March 09
A lovely welcome pack on my arrival and a warm and cosy Gite made me feel at home immediately. Thank you. L' Ecurie is perfectly placed for househunting and beaches. It was lovely to have you next doorand thanks for all your friendly advice and help whilst initially exploring the area and then with househunting. Enjoyed your company and the pineau! WILL see you again soon.

Really great gite, even better hosts. Kathy and Paul we are indebted to you! Your advice and freindliness (and opinion) have helped us greatly in our pursuit of a home in the Charente. We will keep in touch (scrounging your help and advice)
